I just read a couple of FB statuses about Father's day and it got me thinking. Some of them gave shoutouts to mothers for playing the dual role of both parents and others gave a shoutout to the father's they have never met and also others to the men who have children with women and abandon their children (deadbeats smh)
A question immediately popped into my head. Is it necessary to have both parents to raise a child??? In some cases, it is critical that a woman have a partner to raise her children. As i write that sentence, i can't help but think about a chris rock clip from his bigger and blacker stand up special (i think) where he talks about how kids are raised. He said "If a child grows up calling his mother by her first name and his grandmom 'mommy', that kid is going to jail". Behind the comedic relief, there is a semi truth to this statement. Maybe jail is an exaggeration but think about it and you will see that there is some kind of truth in there. Some women who grow up without a father tend to have "daddy issues" where they supposedly fail at their relationships because they didn't have a father figure to learn how to be in a relationship from. Sometimes i feel like that generalization is bullshit but people have their opinions and i guess i have to respect that, even though i don't feel like it. Guys who grow up without a father are said to be more messed up because no one is there to teach them how to be a man. Yea, that's Bullshit. But again, it depends on the person/situation. Whatever.
peace/love
