The "natural movement"

If you haven't noticed it, open your eyes because there is a throng of women shaving their heads on a daily basis to be natural as in, to grow their God-given natural hair. Many [black] women are letting go of relaxer and embracing their natural texture of hair. This is a beautiful thing to me because i am a fellow natural. I stopped relaxing my hair over a year ago and i have a full head of thick, gorgeous, healthy hair to show for it. I love every kink and napp of this mane! Man, i'm soo inlove! Sometimes i wonder why i didn't go natural sooner. At the time i went natural, i decided that my hair just wasn't made for relaxer. I have naturally thick hair and every time i got my hair relaxed, it would be limp and thin and i didn't like how "un-full" my ponytails were. I didn't go natural because i couldnt afford to relax my hair. The money was there, it was just that i didn't want to have to keep relaxing my hair anymore. Not to mention the scalp irritations and other damaging effects. I love how full my hair is and how much i can do with it.

Despite the fact that i am natural, i want it to be clear that there is
NOTHING wrong with having relaxed hair [imo]. Matter of fact, relaxed hair is way more manageable in the sense that you don't have to care tooo too much about having a bad hair day because u can just swoop up the hair in a ponytail and call it that. If you have long and beautifully healthy relaxed hair, then more power to you, sistah! Now on to the reason for this post...

I have a serious problem with women who are going natural just to follow a trend. I'm not sure when this trend started but i didn't even know there was a trend when i decided to become natural. Plenty of women who have gorgeous relaxed hair which is healthy and really long go sit down in front of a barber and get a buzz cut! i am looking at them like are you CRAZY?! why would you do that to all that hair?! You are not going natural because you want to. Just because you saw it look cute on [me] other women, doesn't mean it will look good on you. Natural hair is high maintenance and if you don't know how to maintain, you will be looking a HOT MESS! I know how to take care of my hair and how to style it all by myself to make it look FLY. If you look better in relaxed hair, i highly recommend you keeping that style. Some of you have shaved your heads and now you look kinda crazy. I am all for going natural and everything but if you are doing it just to follow a trend, chances are you will not know how to take care of it and you will go back to relaxer. Don't think that just because you are going natural, you are somehow exempt from having to take care of your hair. This shit is work! Especially if you want your hair to look fresh every time you go out. For some of us who actually love hair and love playing with it, we don't mind spending hours trying to twist or whatever else because we know we will be looking good the next day.

Another thing. There are some ladies walking around who are like natural hair nazis. lol. It is hilarious to me actually. When i became natural, i had no idea that hundreds of women had youtube channels and entire blogs dedicated to natural hair care and styling. I was astonished when one day i got on google and typed in "natural hair" and saw all the things that came up. I spent hours just reading and watching and absorbing everything. I stumbled upon some blogs where people curse relaxer/relaxed hair like it is the devil. I realize that some people have had bad experiences with perming their hair but come on....is it really that serious? It's just hair! God forbid anyone with relaxed hair even talk to them lol. Like i said, it is not that serious! It is just hair and everyone [almost] is born with it!
To conclude, i say kudos to all ladies who have let go of that creamy crack! HOWEVER, Be mindful of the fact that natural hair is not for everyone. Some people look good in it and others just do not!
I needed to get that off my chest. Yes i'm natural but being natural doesn't mean i hate everyone who isn't. To each her [or his] own. Seriously. It is just hair!

peace/love
