The older i get, the more i learn that nothing is really in my control. let me explain...
True to my apparent "type A" personality, i like the feeling of being in control of what is happening in my life. My brain is sort of wired to think that if I do X and add it to Y then the outcome has to be Z. I refuse to accept any alternatives. If Z is what i am after, Z is what i will get. I like to think that i can plan my month, year, next 5 years but if there is any lesson i've learned, especially over the last few years, is that i know nothing. i am in control of nothing and the events of the next hour are as uncertain and as much of a mystery to me as the events of next year. How do i know this? Concrete evidence from my own life. There is literally NOTHING i've ever planned that has gone 100% my way. Even for things as minor as how my day is going to go. Nothing ever goes as planned but everything happens the way it is supposed to happen. Here are a few truths i've come to accept:
- You do not determine your destiny. Not even a bit, so stop trying. God has more power over your life....your being than you can ever even begin to imagine. The sooner you realize that you need to surrender and submit your will to His, the easier your life will be.
- There is an unexplainable peace of mind that comes with relinquishing control and accepting that the One who is actually running things will make things come together for your good.
- In the words of a famous actor, it is a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates! There are SO many things in my life that i know are not of my hand or any other human hand and that alone is almost overwhelming to digest
- Even though nothing ever goes as planned, everything that happens is exactly what was supposed to happen
