I've been fortunate enough to see a lot of this world. Although i am nowhere close to my travel goals, i feel lucky to be here in this moment, at this time.
Nairobi, like a lot of African cities, is booming with life and soul. As is the norm with traveling to this continent, stress immediately melts away once i set foot in the airport. We (the 4 of us) stayed at a lovely house in the city for about 4days before heading to our destination, Kisumu. The first day in Nairobi was uneventful. Why? there was a political demonstration in the middle of town, so we were asked to stay indoors.
We arrived Kisumu and were supposed to start work on Monday. However, this is not going to happen because of the apparent political unrest in Kisumu city, which will interfere with our travel to and from the hospital.
[p.s. it's raining as i write this and the smell of rain hitting the african soil is magical. i love love love it.]
These protests/demonstrations come as a surprise to me for several reasons, especially because of some preconceived notions i had about this country and about its people. Kenyans, in my experience are generally passive people. They are less aggressive, less outspoken, less everything when compared to their west African counterparts.
